About The Position

The Jira Developer will leverage expertise in Groovy (ScriptRunner), Java, and REST API integrations to design, develop, and maintain custom functionality that extends the capabilities of Jira and Jira Service Management (JSM). This role requires deep technical understanding of Jira Data Center, Jira Cloud, and ITSM processes, along with a proven ability to deliver scalable, maintainable automation and integration solutions. Requirements

  • 4-Year Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR Equivalent Experience.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in Jira development, scripting, and integration.
  • Proficiency in Groovy (ScriptRunner) and Java for advanced scripting and development.
  • Hands-on experience with REST API development and handling JSON data structures.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Jira workflows, Jira Assets (formerly Insight), ITSM processes, and Jira’s configuration ecosystem.
  • Experience with both Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud patterns, including migrations and cross-platform development.
  • Advanced skills in JQL (Jira Query Language) for effective search queries and scripted logic.
  • Solid expertise in writing and optimizing SQL queries for database interactions, reporting, and system analysis.
  • Proven capability to build reusable object models and automation rules to support key operational processes.
  • Strong debugging skills for troubleshooting custom scripts, workflow logic, integrations, and database issues.
  • Experience optimizing system performance within complex environments.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain custom functionality leveraging Groovy (ScriptRunner) and Java for Jira and JSM.
  • Build automation scripts, post-functions, listeners, validators, and conditions to streamline workflows and business processes.
  • Design and manage custom integrations with external systems using REST APIs, JSON payloads, and structured data transformations.
  • Configure and programmatically manage Jira workflows, transitions, issue types, issue type schemes, screen schemes, field configurations, custom fields, and context management.
  • Write optimized JQL queries to support complex scripted searches and logical operations.
  • Work with Jira Assets (formerly Insight) to build custom object models and automation rules, supporting ITSM processes.
  • Design advanced automation solutions that align with organizational goals, ensuring compatibility between Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud.
  • Enable seamless system interoperability by building and maintaining integrations with external systems.
  • Develop robust APIs and execute reliable data exchanges through JSON payload handling.
  • Write and execute efficient SQL queries to interact with Jira databases for reporting, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
  • Support Jira system optimization through database interactions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to custom scripting, workflow design, automation, API integrations, and database configurations.
  • Deliver thorough, user-friendly documentation for all custom configurations, development activities, and integration workflows.
  • Other duties as assigned.
