The Jig & Fixture Tool Maker interprets drawings, sketches, models, specifications, worksheets, and related documents to make standard and special jigs, fixtures, gages, tools, and assemblies. The role involves setting up, programming, and operating a variety of numerical-control and conventional machines, as well as using standard tool-room facilities and measuring equipment. Candidates should have extensive experience in four or more listed machine or process categories and be able to hold close tolerances of ±0.0002. The recruitment process includes an online Tooling U computer assessment, typically lasting 2½ hours. Candidates who pass then complete a 40-hour practical test, using provided drawings, materials, tools, and manual equipment to produce two parts. The completed parts are checked on a CMM and through additional manual measurements.
