The JeffSTAT Paramedic provides care to patients during inter-facility and emergency transports, following JeffSTAT’s predetermined treatment protocols and standards of care. The paramedic cares for critically ill and injured patients and serves as an ambassador of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, often being the first Jefferson healthcare delivery team member to interact with patients and their families. The role includes documenting patient assessments, treatments provided during transport, and patient outcomes. Paramedics also educate patients and families about the transport process, interventions, and what to expect at the receiving facility. At the beginning of each shift, they inspect medical equipment and supplies, complete an ambulance inventory checklist, record refrigerator temperatures, and perform glucometer control testing. To maintain proficiency in caring for and transporting critically ill or injured patients, paramedics attend required meetings, chart and equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions. They must complete annual recurrent competency requirements and maintain an active paramedic certification and all other certifications required by policy.
