About The Position

This position will direct the Jazz Band at Garrison Middle School. The role involves directing all aspects of the jazz band before school three times a week, coordinating with the Pioneer Middle School Jazz Band Director, and organizing, preparing, and conducting jazz band rehearsals. The director will help performers build their skills, knowledge, and ability, supervise students, and work with the District Music Coordinator. The position requires preparing for 6 concerts a year and accompanying students on a field trip to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Other reasonable duties for the efficient set up and operation of the Garrison Middle School Jazz Band may also be assigned.

Requirements

• BA in Music.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out supervision duties for a band.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students and administrators.
• Evidence of short and long-term organization and management skills.
• Evidence of being a positive role model.
• Professional integrity, vigor, flexibility, enthusiasm.
