JavaScript Developer

Turingβ€’Chicago, IL

About The Position

Turing is hiring a JavaScript Developer to work as a Software Engineering evaluator on AI model training initiatives. The role involves creating datasets to train, benchmark, and advance large language models in collaboration with researchers. Work includes curating code examples, developing precise solutions, and correcting code across Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, Java, and JavaScript, including ReactJS, with particular emphasis on systems-level code, performance-critical applications, and infrastructure. The evaluator will assess and refine AI-generated code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and reliability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on enterprise-level AI-driven coding solutions. The work also includes building agents to verify systems-level and infrastructure code, evaluating model capabilities across software engineering activities, and designing mechanisms to automatically verify task solutions. The engagement is flexible, requires at least 10 hours per week and allows up to 40 hours per week, and is initially one month with potential extensions based on performance and fit. Candidates must be based in the United States. The contractor engagement does not include medical or paid leave.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in systems programming, infrastructure, or backend development using languages such as JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Rust, and Go.
  • Experience building and deploying scalable, production-grade software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality and review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Must be based in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at the frontier of AI, such as at OpenAI, NVIDIA, Databricks, Palantir, Snowflake, or similar organizations.
  • Graduation from a leading program such as Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, or a comparable institution; exceptional experience and skill take precedence over pedigree.

Responsibilities

  • Curate code examples, develop solutions, and correct code for AI model training initiatives across Python, C/C++, Rust, Go, Java, and JavaScript, including ReactJS.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code for systems-level correctness, performance, efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build agents that verify systems-level and infrastructure code and identify error patterns.
  • Evaluate model capabilities across software engineering activities, including prototyping, architecture design, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Design mechanisms to automatically verify solutions to software engineering tasks.
