About The Position

Schwab Technology Services develops innovative and reliable technology solutions that help clients manage their money. Within Broker-Dealer Service Engineering, Client Data Shared Services builds centralized capabilities that enable Schwab teams to access, move, and use client data efficiently. As a Software Development & Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and production support of high-volume services, data pipelines, and event-driven solutions. You will make sound technical decisions, resolve complex engineering challenges, and remain accountable for quality, reliability, and business outcomes from design through production. Success requires hands-on technical leadership, adaptability, and close collaboration with product, architecture, vendor, offshore, and internal engineering teams. You will also mentor engineers and advance responsible AI-assisted development practices that improve delivery while maintaining clear ownership of code quality and correctness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience with Java, Spring, cloud technologies, and REST or SOAP web services in high-volume, highly available environments
  • 3+ years of experience with distributed or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Yugabyte
  • 3+ years of experience with real-time data processing and streaming solutions
  • 3+ years of experience with continuous build tools and version-control platforms, including Bamboo, Bitbucket, or Git
  • 3+ years of experience developing batch-processing or data-pipeline solutions using technologies such as Spring Batch or PySpark
  • 2+ years of experience with GCP, AWS, or Microsoft Azure
  • 2+ years of experience developing event-driven systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies
  • 2+ years of experience deploying cloud-based solutions through CI/CD practices
  • Experience using GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining accountability for code quality and correctness

  • Ability to apply Software Development and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) skills to design, build, test, deploy, and support reliable services
  • Ability to use Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving to evaluate technical options, identify risks, and make decisions based on business and operational impact
  • Experience developing technical specifications, API contracts, data models, and production-ready code
