About The Position
Join a dynamic team modernizing critical laboratory systems for Labcorp’s Connect initiative, with a focus on histology and digital pathology. As a Java Developer, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming legacy platforms into scalable, cloud-based solutions using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and AI-augmented tools. This is a hybrid contract-to-hire opportunity based in Durham, NC, where you’ll directly impact the future of healthcare diagnostics through innovative technology.
Requirements
- 6-7+ years professional backend Java development (Java 11-21, Spring Boot)
- Strong hands-on AWS experience (Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS)
- Expertise with messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
- Microservices architecture proficiency
- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, Git, SonarQube)
- Application security (Spring Security, OAuth 2.0)
- SQL databases (Postgres, Oracle) and familiarity with DynamoDB

- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- AI-assisted coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex)
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Test-Driven Development (JUnit 5, Mockito)
- Application monitoring and log aggregation (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK)

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy RESTful microservices with Java 11-21 and Spring Boot on AWS
- Lead technical design reviews and contribute to architectural decisions
- Translate complex lab workflows into scalable, reliable backend services
- Champion code quality, secure coding, and testing best practices
- Mentor engineers on modern Java and microservices design patterns
- Integrate AI-augmented development tools to enhance team productivity
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and Agile teams
- Participate in process improvement and adoption of new technologies
