About The Position

Citi is looking for a skilled Java Developer at the Assistant Vice President level to design, build, and maintain high-quality backend applications that power financial systems used at global scale. Based in Irving, Texas, you will work within a collaborative technology team, contributing to the full software development lifecycle while operating with a strong degree of autonomy and technical ownership. This is an opportunity to apply deep Java and Spring Boot expertise to meaningful, complex problems in the financial services industry.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of hands-on Java development, with deep expertise in Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Web, and Spring Data.
  • Advanced knowledge of core Java concepts including threading, collections, exception handling, JDBC, object-oriented design and programming principles, and SOA design patterns.
  • Proven ability to build, deploy, and manage containerized applications running on Kubernetes and Docker platforms.
  • Solid experience designing and delivering microservices and service-oriented architectures using REST-based communication patterns.
  • Practical experience working within Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines, applying Agile methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, with familiarity with Oracle as a preferred dialect.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate clearly across technical teams and engage effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and deploying cloud-ready applications on large-scale container platform clusters, including the build-out of automated deployment pipelines.
  • Familiarity with modern engineering practices such as Behavior Driven Development, Extreme Programming, and DevOps workflows.
  • Background in financial services application development, with an understanding of the compliance and risk considerations relevant to enterprise-grade systems.
  • Experience managing or contributing to end-to-end project delivery, including scoping, planning, and stakeholder coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality Java and Spring Boot components, applying sound architectural decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Build and maintain backend services across the full stack, including RESTful APIs and microservices integrated within a service-oriented architecture.
  • Write comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests using JUnit and Mockito to ensure reliability and production-readiness of delivered code.
  • Conduct peer code reviews across the team's codebase, providing clear and constructive technical feedback that improves code quality.
  • Analyze existing applications to identify vulnerabilities, security gaps, and performance bottlenecks, then implement targeted remediation and optimizations.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging development tools, libraries, and methodologies to continuously raise delivery quality and engineering standards.
  • Engage with internal technology teams and stakeholders to assess technical requirements, recommend programming solutions, and support the implementation of enterprise systems.
