About The Position

American Express is hiring a Java/API Engineer to support the development of scalable backend systems and microservices, enabling integration across enterprise platforms including data systems, customer experience platforms, and internal services. This role focuses on building high-performance APIs and distributed backend services, serving as a foundational layer for multiple applications and platforms.

Responsibilities

Design and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot
Build and maintain scalable backend applications supporting high-throughput systems
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices
Develop and support microservices architectures that are resilient and scalable
Work with distributed systems and asynchronous processing models
Implement patterns such as circuit breakers, retries, and service discovery
Produce and consume event streams using Kafka or similar messaging systems
Support real-time or near real-time data processing
Enable communication between services in an event-driven architecture
Integrate APIs with relational and NoSQL databases, external services and third-party APIs, and internal enterprise systems
Support backend services that interact with data platforms and downstream analytics systems
Deploy and manage applications in a cloud environment (GCP preferred)
Participate in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git, Maven)
Support monitoring, logging, and performance optimization
