About The Position

Part of a dynamic team building and implementing the enterprise Demand Management intake and routing capability within the Apptio platform, focused on configuration, data architecture, and scalable reporting. The Senior Engineer designs, builds and runs the RESTful APIS at the heart of our distributed platform.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in building backend services in Java
Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the wider Spring ecosystem
Proven track record of designing and implementing RESTful APIs
Experience in building and running microservices in a distributed environment
Familiarity with messaging or streaming systems like Kafka
Working knowledge of relational databases
Good understanding of data pipelines
Experience in Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker and Kubernetes

Data pipeline tools: Apache Spark, Airflow
API gateways and service mesh
NoSQL and caching
Observability tooling

Responsibilities

Design clean, consistent, versioned RESTful APIs: resource modelling, HTTP semantics, status codes, pagination, filtering and error contracts.
Write and maintain API specifications and review API designs from other engineers.
Build high-quality, well-tested Java services, primarily with Spring Boot.
Apply API security practices: OAuth 2.0/OIDC, JWT, input validation and rate limiting.
Use asynchronous and event-driven patterns where they fit better than synchronous calls.
Build microservices that stay correct and available under partial failure: timeouts, retries with backoff, circuit breakers, idempotency and graceful degradation.
Design services for scalability and performance.
Contribute to data pipelines that move and transform data between services and databases.
Write unit, integration and contract tests; keep CI/CD pipelines green.
Deploy and run services on containers and cloud infrastructure.
