About The Position

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a remote, work-from-home Bilingual Japanese-English Video-Phone Interpreter. This role involves using your language skills to assist limited-English speakers and the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing across various industries, including healthcare, 911, first responders, education, government agencies, and general business. Requirements

  • Fluency in Japanese and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective.
  • Ability to remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects.
  • Must be able to adapt to LLS technology enhancements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages – highly preferred.
  • Dedicated personal device for business purposes (Desktop/Laptop with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS; Tablets with iPadOS or Android; Smartphones with iOS or Android).
  • High-speed Internet connection (download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, Jitter value of no more than 30 ms).
  • Must have access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
  • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer and webcam the majority of the workday.
  • Must use a headset for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to operate company-provided software and systems.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
  • Able to lift up to 26 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages – highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle calls on demand and render the meaning of conversations between Japanese and English speakers.
  • Break communication barriers in industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.
  • Process information quickly and concisely, recognizing sensitive cultural differences.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times, using appropriate terminology and understanding common industry procedures.
  • Handle simple or complex, technical or non-technical subjects via video and audio interpreting sessions.
  • Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Participate in online, video, and audio training sessions.
  • Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a dedicated device.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during sessions, even if speakers are incoherent or upset, especially in emergency situations.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
  • Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol.
  • Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
  • Provide the required company standards of service within a dynamic environment, which may include highly emotional or stressful calls, extended calls without breaks, or high call volumes.
