About The Position

The Janitor performs general cleaning tasks and maintains assigned work areas at a professional agency building site for The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence in Watertown, NY. The position may involve travel between work sites based on contract or agency needs. The employee must provide their own transportation to and from work.

This is a part-time position of up to 30 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday, with some holiday work depending on contract needs. The role involves using custodial and floor-care equipment, handling cleaning agents, and following safety practices. Duties and responsibilities may change as contract needs evolve.

Requirements

• Janitorial experience is preferred.
• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; job duties may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 50 pounds.
• Be capable of moving up and down stairs without difficulty.
• Be capable of standing on foot for extended periods.
• Provide own transportation to and from work.
• Be able to identify Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical labels and markings.
• Be willing to learn the proper use of cleaning agents and supplies.
• Be willing to learn proper maintenance and safety features of light and heavy custodial equipment.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, time-management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or in a group.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning tasks and maintain assigned work areas.
• Use high- and low-speed maintenance equipment as assigned.
• Use carpet-cleaning equipment as assigned.
• Remove trash.
• Sweep, mop, dust, and vacuum as assigned.
• Wet mop floors.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms as assigned.
• Strip and wax floors.
• Wash windows.
• Monitor equipment and report malfunctions or problems to a supervisor.
• Practice safety-first work habits.
• Travel between work sites when required by contract or agency needs.
