Janitor - Agency Sites
About The Position
The Janitor performs general cleaning tasks and maintains assigned work areas at a professional agency building site at The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence in Watertown, New York. Duties include operating custodial and carpet-cleaning equipment, removing trash, cleaning floors and restrooms, washing windows, and reporting equipment problems. The employee is expected to practice safety and may work independently or as part of a group. Some travel between work sites may be required, and the employee must provide transportation to and from work. Work is part-time, up to 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with some holiday work depending on contract needs.
Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must provide own transportation to and from work.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 50 pounds.
- Must be able to move up and down stairs without difficulty.
- Must be able to work on feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to identify SDS sheets and chemical labels and markings.
- Must be willing to learn proper use of cleaning agents and supplies.
- Must be willing to learn proper maintenance and safety features of light and heavy custodial equipment.
- Competencies include ethical conduct, time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or in a group.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in janitorial work is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Use high- and low-speed maintenance equipment as assigned.
- Use carpet-cleaning equipment as assigned.
- Remove trash.
- Sweep, mop, dust, and vacuum as assigned.
- Wet mop.
- Perform restroom disinfecting and cleaning as assigned.
- Strip and wax floors.
- Wash windows.
- Monitor equipment use and report malfunctions or problems to a supervisor.
- Practice safety-first procedures.
