About The Position

The Janitor will be responsible for performing and scheduling routine janitorial and light maintenance tasks for common areas and grounds. This includes garbage removal, weeding, replacing locks and light bulbs, and performing minor carpentry and painting. The role also involves responding to maintenance or cleaning emergencies, addressing client concerns about building cleanliness, and reporting maintenance needs. The Janitor will inspect the building's interior and exterior daily for any issues such as graffiti, damage, or safety hazards, and will assist the Special Projects Manager with site inspections and creating work requests. Additionally, the Janitor will maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies, prepare units for new intake (including light maintenance, cleaning, and painting), and complete LIHI work orders and repair documentation. This is a unionized, non-exempt, part-time position working 24 hours per week.

Requirements

  • One year building maintenance or janitorial experience.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Must pass background and drug screening test

Responsibilities

  • Perform and schedule routine janitorial and light maintenance of common areas, grounds maintenance, garbage removal and weeding, replacing locks and light bulbs, performing minor carpentry and painting.
  • Respond to light maintenance or cleaning emergencies as needed.
  • Respond to shelter clients’ concerns and questions regarding the building’s cleanliness and report maintenance needs to the Special Projects Manager.
  • Inspect the building’s interior and exterior each work day for graffiti, damage, lighting not working and any apparent safety hazards.
  • Assist the Special Projects Manager with site inspections, at time of turnover or as needed, helping to create work requests for maintenance needs.
  • Inventory – maintain basic cleaning and light maintenance supplies.
  • Prepare units, including light maintenance, cleaning, painting and helping coordinate any vendor work for new intake for the units in a timely manner.
  • Complete LIHI work orders for all non-routine cleaning and grounds work.
  • Use work requests to document all repair and non-routine work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
