About The Position

Janitorial Relay, part of Relay Resources, is hiring a Janitor to help keep facilities and shared spaces clean safely and effectively. The role supports cleaning at the MC Juvenile Justice Center. Relay Resources is a Portland-based nonprofit that employs more than 700 people, the majority of whom are people with disabilities, and provides services including janitorial, landscaping, document services, and supply chain solutions.

The Janitor performs cleaning and basic floor-care work, responds to janitorial emergencies, checks equipment for safe working condition, and communicates inventory needs to supervisors. This position requires extended periods of walking and standing and physical work that can include lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, bending, and pulling.

Requirements

• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and write simple instructions and short correspondence.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, bend, and pull.
• Ability to speak and understand basic English.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make independent decisions.

Responsibilities

• Disinfect touch-points and wipe surfaces.
• Clean restrooms and terminals, including furniture and glass, and perform outside cleaning.
• Respond to janitorial emergencies.
• Perform basic floor-care tasks, including vacuuming, daily carpet spotting, sweeping, and mopping.
• Confirm that equipment is in good and safe working condition.
• Dust, empty trash, stock restrooms, and clean walls, windows, and countertops.
• Communicate inventory needs to supervisors.
