About The Position

The Janitorial Staff works to ensure that Shelter House’s facilities are maintained to a standard of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in accordance with OSHA standards. This role involves daily cleaning of the facility, including dusting, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, common areas, offices, and laundry areas. It also includes heavy cleaning duties using commercial cleaning appliances and products for both interior and exterior spaces, maintaining exterior waste removal, and managing house laundry. Regular heavy cleaning is performed on daily, weekly, and monthly schedules. The Janitor will use appropriate tools and cleaning products, keep exterior grounds safe and clean, and handle biohazardous waste according to standards. This role also involves coordinating the storage of cleaning supplies and equipment, maintaining organized storage spaces, and managing the effective use of supplies and equipment. Collaboration with Property Manager, Facilities Manager, Shelter Coordinators, and other Janitorial staff is essential to meet agency-wide goals. The position requires completing assigned training and obtaining/maintaining certifications. Interaction with management and other staff is expected to accomplish department goals in a positive, professional, team setting. A weekly meeting with the Property Manager is scheduled. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking around.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Perform daily cleaning of the facility on time and to standards.
  • Dust all surfaces, sweep floors, clean and sanitize bathrooms, common areas, offices, and laundry areas.
  • Conduct heavy cleaning duties using commercial cleaning appliances and appropriate cleaning products in interior and exterior spaces.
  • Wash walls, chairs, and tables.
  • Maintain exterior waste removal spaces.
  • Perform house laundry using appropriate supplies when necessary.
  • Complete regular heavy cleaning according to established daily, weekly, and monthly schedules in all interior and exterior spaces.
  • Complete cleaning duties with appropriate tools, including commercial carpet steamers, mops, brooms, dust pans, mop buckets, and supplied cleaning products.
  • Keep exterior grounds safe and in clean condition.
  • Perform shoveling, salting sidewalks, trimming, mowing, and other exterior grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure immediate removal of any biohazardous waste and follow all appropriate standards using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Communicate the presence of biohazards to appropriate staff.
  • Coordinate the requisition and storing of cleaning supplies, maintenance equipment, and items associated with facility upkeep.
  • Maintain all cleaning supplies, equipment, and janitorial storage spaces in a clean organized manner in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Manage the usage of cleaning supplies and equipment appropriately and effectively for each task.
  • Work closely with Property Manager, Facilities Manager, Shelter Coordinators, and other Janitorial staff to meet other cleaning/maintenance and agency-wide goals.
  • Complete all assigned training courses and obtain and maintain any required certifications.
  • Interact with Facility/Shelter Managers and other janitorial staff to accomplish department goals and projects in a positive, professional, team setting.
  • Attend a scheduled weekly meeting with Property Manager.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
