About The Position

A clean, safe environment is integral to the work of Hope the Mission (HTM). The Janitor plays a crucial role in maintaining this environment, ensuring that HTM program sites are clean, sanitary, and safe for all individuals served. This role goes beyond routine facilities maintenance, requiring reliability, attention to detail, and an understanding of the dignity that a well-maintained space conveys to vulnerable populations. The Janitor is responsible for the cleanliness of interior spaces, including offices, restrooms, showers, and common areas, as well as the exterior perimeter. Additionally, the role supports site safety by monitoring facility conditions, managing supplies, and promptly reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or general cleaning experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 25–50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to safely operate basic cleaning equipment (mops, vacuums, floor buffers, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean, safe environments.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks within assigned schedules.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
  • Background Screening – Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of background checks as required per worksite.
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing – Candidates must pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screenings in accordance with company policy.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Check – For roles requiring driving, employment is contingent upon an acceptable driving record.
  • Legal Eligibility to Work – Candidates must provide proof of legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Compliance with Company Policies and HIPAA standards – All employees must comply with company policies, including safety, confidentiality, and conduct standards.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize all interior spaces daily, including offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, showers, and common areas.
  • Maintain the exterior perimeter of the property, keeping all areas clear of trash and debris.
  • Change and remove trash receptacles daily; prepare bins for scheduled weekly pickup.
  • Assist with sanitizing participant belongings in the hot box during intake as needed.
  • Restock bathroom supplies and common area consumables as needed throughout each shift.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of cleaning supplies and materials on hand.
  • Report supply needs to the supervisor in a timely manner, before current stock is depleted.
  • Store all chemicals and cleaning agents in locked, designated areas in compliance with environmental safety standards at all times.
  • Monitor facility conditions throughout each shift and report maintenance concerns or safety hazards to management promptly.
  • Identify and report any unsafe situations, systems, or processes to the supervisor immediately.
  • Provide janitorial coverage at other HTM sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
