About The Position

The Janitor provides a wide variety of cleaning services and related duties to keep facilities clean and orderly. The position supports Nome Public Schools in Nome, Alaska, and is non-rotational. Hiring is limited to local Nome residents.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Some combination of education or experience that demonstrates working knowledge of cleaning equipment and general cleaning processes.
Must have a working cell phone number for work dispatch.
Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Hiring is limited to local Nome residents.

Prior janitorial or custodian experience.

Responsibilities

Clean, sweep, vacuum, mop, sanitize, and restock assigned areas, including hallways, stairways, offices, food preparation or break areas, offsite areas, restrooms, and public areas.
Open facilities for non-school usage on weekends and for evening events.
Clean and maintain all types of floors using appropriate equipment and methods, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, extracting, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming.
Dust low and high areas and wipe down or clean various surfaces.
Use appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for assigned tasks.
Remove and properly dispose of discarded materials.
Remove and transport trash to appropriate disposal areas; may compact trash.
May change light bulbs and perform light facility maintenance.
May keep building entryways free of snow and debris.
May operate a vehicle to work at various locations.
Perform other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.
