About The Position

Holy Redeemer Parish in Burton is seeking a part-time Janitor/Custodian working 19 hours per week or less. The position reports to the Business Manager and is non-exempt. Hours may be irregular and may occasionally include weekends.

The role maintains cleanliness and order throughout the parish, including floors, bathrooms, church areas, halls, hallways, stairways, and grounds. It also involves setting up and breaking down tables and chairs, servicing custodial equipment, performing minor repairs, and reporting safety, sanitary, or fire hazards. The listed responsibilities describe the general nature and level of the work and are not an exhaustive list.

Requirements

• High school or GED diploma.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; physical demands also include moving and loading equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, twist, kneel, and climb ladders or work from heights while performing maintenance tasks.
• Working knowledge of methods, techniques, and materials used in custodial work.
• Ability to operate, care for, and store custodial equipment and supplies.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Previous custodial and grounds experience.
• Two years of experience in housekeeping or janitorial work.
• Practicing Catholic.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, scrub, mop, and wax floors to keep them clean.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling.
• Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms in accordance with OSHA/CDC guidelines.
• Clean, sanitize, and supply the church, halls, hallways, and stairways in accordance with OSHA/CDC guidelines.
• Set up and break down tables and chairs for functions as assigned.
• Clean and service custodial equipment as needed.
• Perform minor repairs on furniture, buildings, and equipment.
• Report safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department.
• Ensure grounds areas are clean and orderly.
