The IV Pharmacy Tech I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. This role involves medication selection, preparation, and labeling, as well as assisting with medication distribution tasks. The position also screens phone calls, assists with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and completes documentation for controlled substances. Responsibilities include performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves seeking additional duties, potentially participating in quality improvement initiatives, and assisting in training other pharmacy technicians. Adherence to all organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards is required. The position supports area leaders, handles patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Developing competence in third-party billing functions and providing age-appropriate patient care are also key aspects. In some cases, the role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, or operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
