This role provides service support to the customer base within the Medical Center regarding refrigeration maintenance. The primary goal is to maintain the proper environment to ensure the Medical Center can perform its service to the community and support the function of building systems. The mechanic will maintain uninterrupted services, primarily working on refrigeration equipment used by a very diverse customer base including a trauma medical center, research and teaching facilities. The position requires compliance with the safety regulations and policies of the University of Rochester, MCFO and all local state and Federal agencies having jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • High school education and 4-6 years experience as a refrigeration service mechanic
  • Experience in an electrical/mechanical trade education or related environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CFC Universal Certification required.
  • Ability to read and write English and make mathematical calculations required.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations required.

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs service calls, work orders, preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and reconditioning work on refrigeration equipment such as medical refrigerators, freezers, water and ice dispensers, cold rooms, environmental chambers, coolers/freezers and ultralow freezers.
  • Dissembles, inspects, and troubleshoots refrigeration equipment both electronically and mechanically. Uses specialized refrigeration tools such as scales, multi-meters, micron gauges and all other related refrigeration equipment.
  • Disassembles, inspects/examine system components such as receiver controls, electronic, pneumatic controls, dampers, and valves to detect mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic malfunctions making recommendations, necessary repairs or replacement.
  • Has working knowledge of Building Automation Systems and related HVAC equipment.
  • Trouble shoots refrigeration equipment and mechanical systems. Perform root cause analysis to identify failure and needed repairs to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Must solder, braze and weld all types of materials such as brass, copper, & aluminum alloys.
  • Must work with refrigerants and refrigeration equipment documenting results in the University CFC log, meeting EPA, local and State laws.
  • Acts in the capacity of instructor, trouble shooter and specialist. Leads by example understanding own limitations and strives to learn more.
  • Investigates shutdowns, documents and provides notice to customers, trades and outside contractors.
  • Works with trades and outside contractors as necessary keeping the quality of work and costs in line.
