About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineer to join our NC ITS/Traffic Team. This is an entry-level position and is based out of Raleigh, NC. The role involves designing and developing plans and drawings related to ITS and Traffic design, including traffic signal design, fiber optic communications cable routing and splicing, utility coordination, signing and striping, and traffic safety studies. The engineer will organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis with a well-defined scope. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports, researching alternative design approaches, contributing to specifications and permit applications, preparing preliminary estimates, performing quality control checks, and coordinating with other disciplines. Field observations of construction may also be required.

Requirements

  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college/university.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Capability to develop technical writings and reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings related to ITS and Traffic design.
  • Organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis which have a well-defined scope.
  • Outline and prepare relatively straightforward technical reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, regulatory agency specifications, industry best practices, state of the practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications and writes miscellaneous reports.
  • Prepares preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates.
  • Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing reports, designs, and drawings developed by others.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Perform field observations of construction where appropriate.
  • Perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
