About The Position

Assemble, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Requirements

• Graduate from high school or general education degree.
• Two years of technical training in plumbing systems or university program certificate.
• Four to five years related experience and/or training.
• Read and interpret procedures, policies and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence.
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, staff, and public.
• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license.
• State of Alaska Journeyman’s Plumber License and current Alaska fitness card.
• Lift 70 pounds.
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, in outside weather conditions, and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
• Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities

• Locate, repair and maintain water, heating and sewage systems in all District facilities.
• Complete all preventative maintenance work in a timely manner.
• Inspect all contracted repair or new installation.
• Estimate cost of plumbing repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead.
• Coordinate with the Plant Manager to determine if repair jobs should be contracted.
• Extensive travel to villages required.
