About The Position

This position serves as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT®), a paraprofessional certification in applied behavior analysis. RBTs assist school staff in implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practices under the close supervision of a BCBA. The successful applicant will provide support and assistance in behavior management, communication, and academic instruction. The ECCAT/Aide assists teachers in implementing the instructional program by working directly with children in small groups or one-on-one, establishing effective rapport with students in K-2 classrooms, and motivating students to develop attitudes and knowledge for a strong educational foundation, tailored to each pupil's ability.

Requirements

  • Completed high school-level education or equivalent.
  • Pass a criminal background check and an abuse registry check.
  • Obtain 40 hours of qualified training.
  • Successfully complete an RBT initial competency assessment.
  • Pass the RBT exam taken through the BACB.
  • Maintain RBT credential by receiving ongoing supervision by the BCBA, adhering to ethics set forth by the BACB, and renewing certification annually.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • State mandated competency exam.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
  • The individual may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
  • Proper restraining may be required to ensure children are safe if they are at risk of hurting themselves or others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct student instruction and assist staff with implementation in one-on-one and group settings using intensive teaching and natural environment teaching arrangements.
  • Follow BCBA direction to implement skills acquisition and behavior change protocols.
  • Assist with preparing materials as necessary.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior.
  • Assist with skill acquisition and behavioral assessments.
  • Collect data on all programming and document interventions, progress data, and session notes.
  • Assist with staff training on students' behavior intervention plans and other identified protocols through direct teaching, modeling, and fidelity checks.
  • Immediately report to BCBA any student incidents/variances or complaints.
  • Communicate with staff regarding student progress as instructed by the BCBA.
  • Collaborate with school teams and attend I.E.P. meetings as necessary.
  • Participate in and present in-service programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students.

  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity with students and their program.
  • Adhere to identified schedule and travel between locations to meet the needs of all assigned schools.
  • Implement, and train school staff to implement, evidence-based intervention strategies under the direction of the BCBA.
  • Keep records of activity and assist in academic and behavioral data collection.
  • Manage and instruct small groups of students when the teacher is not available.
  • Assist in functional behavior assessment process and the development of behavior intervention plans.
  • Participate in physical activities that are part of the students' basic program.
  • Be flexible in schedule and activities throughout the day.
  • Assist with crisis prevention and intervention.
  • Complete necessary training and in-service as required by the County.
  • Supervise students.
  • Maintain classroom including preparing bulletin boards.
  • Attend Open house, conferences on a voluntary or as requested basis.
  • Keep records, write lessons on the board, and correct student's work.
  • Load/unload wheelchair-bound students on bus, and/or wait with students for transportation.
  • Instruct and demonstrate use of exercise equipment and production machinery.
  • Assist students in the restroom as necessary, and may have to change diapers and other hygiene-related procedures.
  • Help or assist with duplicating and collecting educational paperwork.
  • Assist teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
  • Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with State Law and County policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an environment that is safe for students and conducive to learning.
  • Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
  • Assist with supervision and instruction of children; copying, cutting, coloring, etc., to construct materials and bulletin boards.
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills that have been taught by the teacher.
  • Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and needs and abilities of students.
  • Assist with supervision of student passengers on buses and maintain a safe traveling environment.
  • Attend in-services and workshops, as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality, unquestionable integrity.
  • Assist the teacher in supervision of children in the classroom and to various locations in the school including, but not limited to, instructional areas, the cafeteria, and the bus.
  • Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty and other duties assigned by the building supervisor or principal.
