About The Position

The IT Technician is responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting all PLC control systems, including but not limited to RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk SE, FactoryTalk ME, Ignition, Wonderware, and Siemens controls. This role will maintain all labeling systems, scaling systems, metal detectors, and X-rays in the plant. The technician will also manage and maintain the inventory system, and all computer-related equipment associated with control systems. Responsibilities include troubleshooting computer problems, monitoring computer processing systems, installing software, and performing tests on computer equipment and programs throughout the facility. The position will perform necessary repairs and project maintenance on all standalone and plant-wide control systems, requiring a general knowledge of pneumatics, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. This may also include cutting and welding if directed by a supervisor. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Office IT team and maintaining the plant network infrastructure, including IDF's and MDF's, and documenting/testing network equipment configurations. The technician will also perform scale tech job functions, including passing the Weights and Measures Registered Service exam for the state of Iowa, maintaining certified weights, and performing periodic scale checks, preventive maintenance, and repairs on various types of scales, metal detectors, and X-ray systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with course work in skilled crafts preferred, or three (3) years of experience using mechanical or other related skills; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and employees using plant systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, standard operating procedures, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with USDA, production and management personnel.
  • Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand basic statistics for process control.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.
  • Must be able to pass the Weights and Measures Registered Service exam for the state of Iowa.
  • Follow all guidelines stated in NIST Handbook 44.
  • General knowledge of pneumatics, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • General knowledge of pneumatics, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems for scale repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Document, test and modify office and plant software systems including Microsoft Server and workstation OS platforms, Microsoft Exchange, MS Active Directory, Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL, VMWare, Antivirus, WSUS, Solar Winds, Citrix, Carlisle, Rockwell and Wonderware.
  • Build reports and charts in Ignition to meet production or management needs.
  • Maintain all computers, application and SQL servers and users associated with the Ignition system.
  • Maintain all computers, application and SQL servers and users associated with the Carlisle system.
  • Maintain all computers, application and SQL servers and users associated with the Pyramid system.
  • Maintain all computers, servers and users and equipment associated with the Avigilon camera system.
  • Maintain all computers associated with plant floor controls.
  • Maintain all computers, servers and users associated with the Bartender labeling system.
  • Maintain all computers, servers and users associated with the Avigilon door system.
  • Maintain all security requirements on the Automated equipment.
  • Pull communication cables to equipment.
  • Maintain all plant labeling systems (Bellmark, Sato, Datamax, Code Pack, Bizerba), including label design software.
  • Maintain all computers, servers and users and equipment associated with the Auto-Fom system.
  • Maintain all trolley vision systems in the plant.
  • Help maintain the WMS system (Cooler Sortation System) and all associated database connections.
  • Provide technical guidance to help support production throughput, efficiency, cost reduction and safety improvements.
  • Assist with scheduling, preparation, installation, service parts inventory and maintenance of technical equipment beyond the scope of ordinary maintenance team members.
  • Assist with the development of controls systems and procedures.
  • Work with the engineering team to document and standardize process improvements.
  • Provide technical support to existing equipment.
  • Assist with the collection and storage of all control parameter settings for plant equipment.
  • Assist with the development of upgrade plans for obsolescent equipment controls.
  • Improve existing control packages to become more reliable and production/maintenance friendly.
  • Troubleshoot both hardware and software issues.
  • Assist with the maintenance of Electrical diagrams and any other documentation for all production equipment.
  • Communicate well with members of the maintenance and engineering team.
  • Perform electrical installations and repair using 480V to 24V.
  • Support the Office IT team when needed.
  • Help maintain the plant network infrastructure by maintaining all equipment associated with the IDF's and the MDF.
  • Document, test and modify configurations of the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), routers, switches and controllers or related networking equipment.
  • Document, test, and modify configurations of Server and SAN, NAS equipment hardware.
  • Analyze local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify network problems or for disaster recovery purposes.
  • Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
  • Run an aerial lift.
  • Perform and follow all scale tech job functions when needed.
  • Perform required tasks on the company’s state-certified pay scales.
  • Maintain all certified weights in the plant.
  • Help maintain all weigh price labeling systems in the plant both manual and automated.
  • Perform periodic scale checks, perform preventive maintenance, and repair equipment while keeping track of job assignments.
  • Operate related testing equipment (Scale simulator, Multimeter).
  • Operate a fork truck or a walkie to perform scale repairs and calibrations.
  • Perform necessary repairs and maintenance on plant-wide scaling systems including bench, combo and motion scales, Metal Detectors and X-ray systems.
  • Perform cutting and welding and basic metal fabrication if directed by supervisor.
