About The Position

The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invites applications for an IT Technician to support operations at Sands Family Grounds (SFG) in Rosslyn, Virginia. This premier, state-of-the-art facility features modern classrooms, collaborative workspaces, and event venues overlooking the capital region. In this role, the IT Technician will deliver high-quality technical and consultative support to faculty, staff, students, and external clients, including participants in executive education programs and hosted events. The goal is to ensure a seamless, high-touch technology experience that supports teaching, learning, and client engagement. The position is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, maintaining reliable access to systems and data, and supporting the performance of core IT services across a diverse user base. Key responsibilities include support for applications, operating systems, computer hardware, networks, and printing services, with a strong emphasis on responsiveness, customer service, and continuous improvement. The IT Technician will also collaborate with colleagues to support classroom technology and audiovisual needs, playing a visible role in the successful delivery of executive programs, meetings, and special events. This includes providing on-site support for external participants and ensuring a polished, professional technology experience aligned with Darden’s reputation for excellence. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, mission-driven setting with cutting-edge facilities and a collaborative team. Occasional travel to Charlottesville, Virginia is required for training and team engagement Availability to work on-site on weekends and evenings is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least one year of experience required. May consider combination of relevant experience, education, certification(s) in lieu of degree.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of information technology concepts and terminology; desktop OS and supported software applications; network fundamentals; IP protocol and related support methodologies.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independent of supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical guidance and information to clients.
  • Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service while communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Ability to prioritize shifting projects and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use AI tools to streamline day-to-day operational processes and outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and presentation skills.
  • Strong coaching/teaching skills.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years of relevant experience strongly preferred.
  • A+ or Microsoft MCSA certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune technologies (package deployment, Autopilot, patching, etc.) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual systems and computer systems is essential
  • Experience working in an academic environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support client requests in a timely manner via walk ups, email, chat, and phone in a timely manner with the goal of resolving all assigned requests within 4 hours.
  • Provide excellent customer support to the faculty, staff, students, and external clients of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in the Rosslyn location.
  • Communicate complex technical information to users with varying levels of technical proficiency; diagnose and resolving common desktop software, hardware and network/access issues including the ability to use enterprise troubleshooting tools.
  • Manage assigned tickets and seek assistance from the department supervisors as needed for assistance or escalation.
  • Follow established procedures for inventory accountability and control.
  • Create and edit PowerShell scripts to facilitate the automatic installation of software and apply configuration settings.
  • Work with technology vendors to attain warranty parts and repairs.
  • Use established imaging technology to ensure that all builds conform to established guidelines (Intune, ImageAssist).
  • Provide basic application and system training for users.
  • Regularly work toward specific team goals and assist clients in achieving their teams' goals.
  • Assist team, as required or assigned, with tier 1 AV requests, including powering and monitoring equipment, troubleshooting issues, securing and installing portable equipment as required. Performing equipment breakdown and storage as required.
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring audiovisual equipment, software, hardware, and cloud resources.
  • Assist in training faculty and staff to utilize AV resources available to them.
  • Utilize current AI tools for scripting, research, vetting/validating solutions to support requests, professional growth, and data analysis
