About The Position

The City of Chattanooga is seeking an IT Technical Trainer to join their Technology Services department. This role is responsible for preparing, conducting, and evaluating technical training programs for employees. The trainer will develop training materials, conduct sessions on general computer systems (like Microsoft Office and Google Apps) and internally developed software, and assess employee progress. This position works under limited supervision and requires strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships with staff, colleagues, managers, and citizens. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Information Systems, Business Administration, Education or related field and three (3) years experience in technical computer training; or any combination of equivalent experience and education that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, conduct, and evaluate technical training programs.
  • Write literature and materials for software training programs.
  • Design exercises to enhance lectures.
  • Conduct technical training classes on general computer systems (Microsoft Office, Google Apps, etc.) and internally developed software and systems.
  • Confer with managers and supervisors to understand computer training needs for employees.
  • Formulate teaching outlines and determine instructional methods (individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, workshops).
  • Select and/or develop computer teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
  • Conduct training sessions covering specific areas of departmental computer operations, including computers and software.
  • Maintain records and prepare statistical reports to evaluate employee performance and progress during training.
  • Compile data and analyze computer training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funding requests.
  • Coordinate established computer training courses with technical and professional computer training courses offered through community resources.
  • Screen, test, counsel, and recommend employees for internal and/or external computer education and training programs.
  • Stay informed on new developments, methods, and techniques in the computer training field.
  • Meet regular attendance requirements.
  • Maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, and citizens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
