IT Systems Engineer

About The Position

The IT Systems Engineer is primarily an IT role on a small, senior team, supporting engineering teams’ access to cloud and SaaS platforms as well as onsite hardware and workplace technology. The central focus is administering accounts, identity, and access: provisioning and deprovisioning users, maintaining group- and role-based permissions, coordinating end-to-end onboarding and offboarding, managing software licenses and vendors, and supporting access audits and reviews. The role also provides hands-on support for workstations, new-hire equipment, conference room A/V, printers, inventory, and company events. There may be opportunities to contribute to Cloud and DevOps work with the Cloud Engineering team, potentially up to 50% of time, depending on project availability; the position is expected to remain primarily IT-focused. The role is onsite in Austin, Texas four days per week.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years administering SaaS and identity platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, GitHub, or Atlassian; experience must involve administration, not merely use.
  • Ability to design and work with groups and roles rather than relying on individual access grants, and explain the benefits of that approach.
  • Experience owning onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Hands-on ability to image laptops, set up workstations, and troubleshoot hardware such as docking stations and monitors.
  • Experience supporting conference room A/V and video conferencing, including remaining composed while supporting a live meeting.
  • Ability to maintain good records, including inventory, documentation, and clear records of actions and reasoning.
  • Clear, patient communication with people who are blocked or frustrated.
  • Ability to clarify vague requests, determine what is needed, and complete work independently.
  • Comfort with an onsite presence in support of collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Google Cloud.
  • AWS or Azure experience, particularly with IAM, directory, and account management.
  • Willingness to learn scripting; Python is used most by the team, and the company will support learning it.
  • Exposure to access reviews, user audits, or compliance evidence gathering.
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field; related experience may be considered instead for a very strong candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts and identity across cloud and SaaS platforms, including tools used by individual teams.
  • Design and maintain group and role structures to grant access through an explainable, auditable model.
  • Coordinate end-to-end onboarding, including accounts, licenses, application access, and hardware preparation and testing before a new hire’s start date.
  • Run offboarding and verify that access is removed across all systems.
  • Support recurring access audits and reviews by gathering evidence, reconciling accounts against the identity provider, and closing identified gaps.
  • Manage software licensing and vendor administration, including seats, renewals, and invoices.
  • Provide first-line hardware support for laptops, monitors, docking stations, keyboards, mice, and other peripherals; resolve issues locally or escalate as needed.
  • Maintain conference room A/V, video conferencing systems, and room-booking panels.
  • Provide technical support for town halls, leadership meetings, presentations, and other events.
  • Troubleshoot printers, including connectivity, drivers and software, toner, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on conference room A/V, printers, and shared technology.
  • Maintain accurate equipment and supply inventory, monitor stock, and flag items for reorder.
  • Coordinate with corporate IT and outside vendors to resolve issues that cannot be handled locally.
  • Document systems and processes, and automate repeatable work.
  • Potentially contribute to Cloud and DevOps work alongside the Cloud Engineering team, depending on project availability.
