About The Position

Under moderate supervision, this position provides daily operations maintenance and support for highly reliable systems, using broad skills and current knowledge of information technology systems. The Temporary IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration and support of the organization's Microsoft technology environment. This role manages user accounts, access permissions, and endpoint administration within Active Directory, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft 365 while providing technical support to ensure secure and reliable IT operations. This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact public health, safety, utility services, and the welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a city-designated work site, or retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of education from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of related experience. Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
  • Knowledge of one or more areas of infrastructure and server technologies.
  • Knowledge of applications and/or operating systems.
  • Knowledge of networking/telephony operating systems and network/telephony monitoring and management applications.
  • Knowledge of industry and department best practices, requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of system capacity planning.
  • Skill in documenting and maintaining application and process or configuration information.
  • Skill in providing day-to-day system/application administration and/or system/application administration in support in a variety of work environments.
  • Skill in installing and maintaining applications, operating systems, or equipment.
  • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts.
  • Ability to accurately identify/determine customer needs and take appropriate actions and/or steps to address identified needs.
  • Ability to recognize, value, and include different perspectives, experiences, approaches, and cultures in achieving organizational goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Administration experience with MS Windows 11 and Apple iOS.
  • Experience troubleshooting PC and server hardware
  • Administration experience with MS Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Experience with Intune, Active Directory account setup and deletion, and Office 365 administration.
  • Experience with CRM ticket management systems and Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
  • Experience with PowerShell or other similar scripting language.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, troubleshoots, diagnoses, tests, evaluates, and makes recommendations to resolve system problems, and defines disaster recovery plans and develops network test plans.
  • Implements, configures, manages, administers, maintains, and monitors software and hardware, including systems, applications, middleware, servers, and storage.
  • Procures new software and hardware for systems, applications, middleware, servers, and storage technologies.
  • Evaluates system performance and health checks by implementing tuning improvements and performing system sizing estimates.
  • Contributes to planning, forecasting, budgeting, procuring, and implementing new system hardware and software, including retiring existing systems and components.
  • Assists with the development of solution-based cost analysis.
  • Coordinates and communicates the installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems and components with customer departments and project teams.
  • Monitors vendor-provided services to ensure service levels are met.
  • Monitors and assists in the management of equipment inventory.
  • Implements system security procedures and ensures compliance with all security policies, procedures, and standards.
