IT Systems Administrator

Fourth•Englewood, CO
•Onsite

About The Position

The IT Systems Administrator is the sole on-site IT resource for Fourth's Denver office, supporting approximately 40 employees. This role is defined first by hands-on Microsoft Access/VBA development and second by broader systems administration responsibilities. The role owns and extends the company's core business application — an Access front-end (forms, modules, VBA) running against a SQL Server back-end — including code changes, source control, role-based application variants, and integrations with other business systems (CRM, shipping, payments, tax, e-commerce, and others). Secondary responsibilities include local systems administration: user account management, on-premise VMware operation, backup monitoring and restores, hardware/printer escalation, and coordination with Corporate IT (EIT), who manage network, security, and Azure infrastructure remotely. The incumbent will be trained into the role by the outgoing employee prior to retirement, with an emphasis on Access development from day one.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining applications in Microsoft Access, including VBA/module-level development
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server (writing queries, understanding stored procedures).
  • Experience being the sole/primary on-site IT resource for a location — able to triage and prioritize independently.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and willingness to read/trace through existing code rather than rebuild from scratch.
  • Ability to write and maintain SQL — queries, stored procedures, and basic schema changes.
  • Understanding of source control practices for application code.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience administering a VMware virtualized environment.
  • Prior experience inheriting and maintaining someone else’s long-running custom application, rather than greenfield development.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Stripe, Avalara, NetSuite, e-commerce platforms (BigCommerce), or EDI.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server and Active Directory (security groups, login scripts, group policy basics).
  • Exposure to backup and disaster recovery tools (e.g., CrashPlan, Azure Backup), even at a monitoring/restore level.
  • General networking familiarity (firewalls, VPN, WiFi segmentation) to work effectively with corporate IT.
  • Knowledge of local monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG) for basic infrastructure health checks

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend the primary business application — an Access front-end (forms, modules, VBA) against a SQL Server back-end.
  • Make code changes directly in Access, following the existing change process: develop in a local dev environment, self-test, push to a test environment for stakeholder sign-off, then roll out through the internal update/versioning system.
  • Work within source control for all application code, including reviewing historical changes when troubleshooting.
  • Manage role-based application variants (different user groups see different functionality) and keep them in sync as changes roll out.
  • Support and extend integrations between the core application and other business systems (CRM, shipping, payments, tax, e-commerce, and others).
  • Write and maintain SQL — queries, stored procedures, and basic schema changes — as part of ongoing development.
  • Administer local user accounts and access: onboarding, offboarding, and Windows security group management.
  • Manage day-to-day operation of the on-premise VMware environment, in coordination with corporate IT, who own the platform.
  • Monitor and respond to local backup alerts; perform file/data restores as requested.
  • Serve as the local escalation point for hardware, printers, and general office IT issues.
  • Coordinate with corporate IT (EIT) on network, firewall, security infrastructure, and Azure — understanding enough to communicate issues clearly, without owning these directly.
  • Support local monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG) for basic infrastructure health, such as printer connectivity.
  • Maintain and grow the office’s IT documentation over time.
  • Serve as the sole on-site IT resource for the Denver office, triaging and prioritizing independently and knowing when to escalate to corporate IT.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with corporate IT (EIT), understanding where the ownership line sits between local IT and corporate IT.
