About The Position

Quantum-Art is a full-stack quantum computing company focused on the development of cutting-edge quantum computing systems based on trapped-ion technology, covering both hardware and software domains. We’re looking for a versatile and hands-on IT & Systems Administrator to be our first dedicated IT hire. This role combines day-to-day IT support (helpdesk) with broader systems administration responsibilities. You will own the company’s IT infrastructure end-to-end, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability while supporting a highly technical team. This is a unique opportunity to build IT foundations from the ground up in a deep-tech environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in IT support and systems administration
  • Strong hands-on experience with MS and Linux environments
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals (DNS, VPNs, firewalls)
  • Experience with identity management and SaaS administration (e.g., Okta)
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues independently
  • Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
  • A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and takes full ownership
  • Someone who can balance quick fixes with long-term scalable solutions
  • A pragmatic problem-solver with strong attention to detail
  • A collaborator who can work with both technical and non-technical teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in startups or as a first/sole IT hire
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments
  • Experience supporting engineering or research teams
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001)
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python)
  • Experience with MDM tools (e.g., Jamf, Kandji)

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, maintain, and scale internal IT infrastructure across Linux, Microsoft, AWS, and on-prem environments.
  • Administer Linux systems, including patching, security hardening, CVE remediation, OS upgrades, DNS, DHCP, and core infrastructure services.
  • Manage VMware vSphere / ESXi environments, including clusters, lifecycle management, upgrades, and virtualization platform maintenance.
  • Manage server, storage, and virtualization infrastructure, including RAID, vSAN policies, Dell servers, firmware, capacity planning, performance tuning, and resilience.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, uptime, reliability, availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Administer FortiGate firewalls, VPNs, routing, VLANs, VIPs, HA, segmentation, and datacenter connectivity.
  • Maintain networking services and infrastructure, including switches, Wi-Fi, office connectivity, DNS, DHCP, and redundancy.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, network, and security issues, including root-cause analysis and operational support.
  • Implement IT security best practices, including endpoint security, patching, MFA, access controls, MDM, encryption, antivirus, and hardening.
  • Support vulnerability management, CVE remediation, risk assessments, incident response, and compliance readiness such as SOC 2 / ISO 27001.
  • Own IT procurement, hardware, licenses, vendors, inventory, and asset lifecycle management.
  • Evaluate, procure, deploy, and manage Dell servers, employee devices, peripherals, and infrastructure hardware.
  • Provide day-to-day IT support for employees across hardware, software, access, network, VPN, Slack, Microsoft Suite, and internal tools.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding, including accounts, devices, permissions, and access control.
  • Maintain IT documentation, procedures, and knowledge base.
  • Partner with R&D and business teams to support specialized infrastructure and computing needs.
  • Help define IT policies, processes, tools, and roadmap as the company grows.
  • Balance quick fixes with long-term scalable, reliable, and secure solutions.
