About The Position

The IT Specialist is responsible for providing various forms of computer-related technical assistance, improving agency efficiency through use of technology, reducing downtime, and implementing and maintaining security protocols. The IT Specialist installs, moves, and maintains hardware and software, configures and/or programs system features and functions, diagnoses problems and determines corrective action, makes procurement recommendations, and trains agency staff. Works independently with consultation and oversight from the IT Supervisor and HR & Administrative Services Director.

Requirements

  • Current knowledge of communication technology (e.g. Apple iOS), Microsoft technologies (e.g. Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Group Policy), VPN, Windows Operating System, cloud technology and industry standard methods for deploying hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of database management systems to include installing and maintaining applications, improving system performance, troubleshooting, and security.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in using and directing use of technology support systems such as Help Desk Software.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in security incident response and management, antivirus programs, disaster recovery protocols.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintains the absolute confidentiality of sensitive files, data and materials accessed, discussed, or observed while working with staff.
  • Maintain technology skills and knowledge in a rapidly changing environment; including complexity generated by increased compliance and security requirements.
  • Organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments, work effectively in a multitask environment.
  • Consistently apply sound judgement to identify, analyze, and correct hardware, and software user problems and make reasoned decisions within the scope of knowledge and authority or refer to the appropriate person.
  • Read and interpret instruction manuals and troubleshoot and solve hardware and software problems.
  • Create, maintain, and review detailed systems information and documents.
  • Ability and willingness to support an environment that advocates and creates a sense of belonging for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain constructive relationships and lead by example.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related fields; AND one year of experience in IT related support staff function: OR AA or AAS in a technical discipline: and three years’ experience in IT related support staff function: OR An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work.
  • Proficiency with contemporary Microsoft Windows Professional operating systems and Microsoft Office Professional Plus software suite required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle available for work-related travel, and appropriate liability insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic experience dealing with Internet connectivity, troubleshooting, security, and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) addressing and routing is preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Or SQL certification (within previous 2 years) preferred.
  • At least one hardware certification (e.g., ComTIA A+): preferred.
