About The Position

We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated Junior IT Specialist to join our team. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in both corporate IT operations and federal government client support. Within a specific scope of work, the Junior IT Specialist is accountable for executing assigned delivery work accurately, consistently, and in alignment with Hive Group standards. The Junior IT Specialist will perform defined tasks accurately with clear instructions to assist in coordinating the maintenance of Hive Group’s internal infrastructure and ensuring alignment with federal security standards, including CMMC and NIST 800-171. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who is eager to learn, provides excellent customer service, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time, on-site position (5 days/week) located in McLean, VA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 - 5 years of experience working in an Information Technology environment.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting Windows and ChromeOS; basic understanding of G Suite/Google Workspace.
  • Foundational knowledge of networking principles (IP addressing, Wi-Fi, and basic connectivity).
  • A strong desire to learn new administrative tools and security platforms (e.g., NinjaOne, Sophos, Fortinet).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a "client-first" mentality.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or entry-level experience in a Government Contracting (GovCon) environment.
  • Basic exposure to or interest in NIST 800-171 or CMMC security frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Office Manager to ensure coordinated on-site coverage and facilities maintenance.
  • Evaluate and optimize conference room technology configurations to ensure system reliability and determine technical requirements for executive-level presentations.
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence (Core hours: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM).
  • Manage and audit user access controls within Google Workspace, ensuring account provisioning aligns with corporate security protocols and least-privilege access standards.
  • Provide first-tier technical support for employee IT needs and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
  • Support client requests for basic IT services and technical troubleshooting.
  • Assist in maintaining corporate cybersecurity infrastructure and implementing security policies.
  • Provide basic support for network access, including VPN, Wi-Fi, and VLAN connectivity.
  • Prepare and deploy laptops and Chromebooks for new hires (imaging, security updates, and software installation).
  • Analyze and oversee the IT asset lifecycle, including the strategic allocation of software licenses and the assessment of physical security equipment for future procurement needs.
  • Coordinate the tracking and shipment of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).
  • Perform routine endpoint health checks and assist with the maintenance of office AV equipment.
  • Support IT leadership in gathering documentation for security compliance audits (CMMC and NIST 800-171).
  • Assist in monitoring systems for vulnerabilities and performing routine security checks.
  • Help develop and update IT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
