About The Position

The IT Specialist role at KAW NATION is responsible for a wide range of technical support and maintenance duties. This position involves installing and training users on software applications, as well as installing, administering, and repairing hardware. The IT Specialist will also maintain office equipment such as copiers, printers, fax machines, and phone systems. A key aspect of the role is maintaining security at all levels, including employee, application, and internet security. The position requires assisting users in resolving computer-related problems, staying updated on new computer hardware and software through technical journals, manuals, and vendor seminars, and evaluating software compatibility and needs for the Nation's programs and departments. Additionally, the IT Specialist will be responsible for creating and maintaining network documentation, administering and troubleshooting network infrastructure, and completing any other assigned duties by their supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or computer background in a related field.
  • Experience in Windows applications.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting software and hardware.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Pro-active, self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
  • Excellent administrative assistant skills (i.e. computer functions, typing, filing, copying, fax, and telephone systems).
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and training of software applications.
  • Installing, administering, and repairing hardware.
  • Maintaining office equipment (i.e. copier, printers, fax machines, phone, etc…)
  • Maintain security at all levels (employee, application, internet)
  • Assists user to resolve computer-related problems such as inoperative hardware or software.
  • Read technical journals and manuals and attend vendor seminars to learn about new computer hardware and software that will benefit the Nation.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Evaluate the compatibility with existing systems, ease of use, and if software meets the needs of the program or department with the Nation.
  • Develop and maintain installation, configuration, security/access and backup procedures
  • Administer, support and troubleshoot software / hardware and overall network infrastructure including but not limited to: Windows 2003/2008, Exchange 2003/2010, Terminal Services, VMware, firewalls, routers, broadband connectivity, database servers, performance monitoring, back-ups, third party application support, etc.
  • Create and upkeep network documentation including but not limited: network assessments, monthly maintenance plans, etc.
  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all managed switches, routers, storage arrays, and servers with the position supervisor. Physically installs all new network equipment. Typically performs the initial installation and maintenance of all network-based software. Performs ongoing installations of new software and hardware and maintains existing Windows network.
  • Be aware of departmental budgets for procurement objectives.
  • Complete any other duties assigned by the immediate or controlling supervisor.
