About The Position

This permanent, excepted-service IT Specialist (Network) position is in the Operations Section of a Combat Communications Unit and is part of the California 147th Combat Communications Squadron. The position performs administrative control, technical direction, and oversight for subordinate personnel within the section. It analyzes customer requirements and manages system administration, infrastructure optimization, customer support, and maintenance for local classified and unclassified area and wide area networks, tactical LAN/WAN networks, wireless systems, and voice systems used by organizations on the base, including the Combat Communications Squadron.

The position manages customer IT requirements supporting operational, training, and readiness missions, including communications security (COMSEC), cybersecurity risk assessments, and encryption requirements. It also ensures viable training programs are developed for assigned functions. California National Guard membership and a compatible military assignment and grade are required; the selectee must wear the military uniform and maintain the appropriate security clearance and required information-assurance certification.

Requirements

• Membership in the California National Guard is required; the selectee must wear the military uniform.
• A compatible military assignment and grade are required. Military grades must be E-3 through E-7, and the member must maintain a compatible military unit, grade, and job assignment.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, including experience applying techniques and requirements in a computer applications or specialty area; planning and coordinating assignment actions and developing project controls; adapting guidelines or precedents; and preparing and organizing cost/benefit study documentation.
• Alternatively, qualifying education may substitute for specialized experience: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a listed relevant field; a degree providing at least 24 semester hours in listed fields and requiring development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks; three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education toward a relevant doctorate; or a qualifying combination of education and experience.
• Maintain the appropriate level of security clearance; at minimum, a National Agency Check is required.
• Obtain and maintain certification required for information assurance functions under DoD Instruction 8570.01-M.
• Participate in direct deposit.
• Submit required transcripts and/or certificates with the application when using education or certification to qualify; foreign education used for qualification must be evaluated as specified in the announcement.
• Applicants subject to the Military Selective Service Act must be registered to be eligible for appointment.
