About The Position

This position is part of the Department of Defense Cyber Excepted Service (CES) and is located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The role supports audits and cybersecurity readiness by reviewing systems, policies, security practices, and network configurations for compliance with Department of Defense and Army information assurance requirements. The position is designated Critical Sensitive and requires eligibility for and maintenance of a Top Secret clearance based on a Tier 5 investigation. It also requires compliance with pre-employment and random drug testing, occasional travel, and irregular hours on rotating shifts; overtime may be required on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent must meet the applicable CES cyber workforce qualification and certification requirements and complete required training and continuing professional development. This is a Professional Work Category position at the Full Performance Work Level. Applicants must qualify through experience alone; education cannot substitute for the required experience.

Requirements

One year of specialized experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies needed for immediate success in the position; the experience must be at or directly related to the work and is typically at the GS-11 level.
Specialized experience must include basic cybersecurity audit reviews for compliance with government and local policy standards; evaluation of cybersecurity operations through review of system configurations and security practices; and basic technical support on security practices to protect organizational information systems.
IT-related experience must demonstrate attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving competencies.
Qualification must be based on experience alone; education cannot substitute for the required experience.
Must be eligible for, obtain, and maintain a Top Secret clearance based on a Tier 5 investigation.
Must comply with pre-employment and random drug testing requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operator permit; travel to remote locations may be required.
Must complete required training and obtain and maintain the certifications or qualifications prescribed for the position under DoDM 8140.03 and supplemental Army guidance.
Must meet foundational cyber workforce qualification requirements within 9 months, resident qualification requirements within 12 months, and complete 20 hours of continuing professional development per work role code.
Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
Must complete a 3-year probationary period.

Responsibilities

Identify and apply specialized audit techniques to meet objectives related to DoD and local policy, the Information Assurance vulnerability management program, and Command Cyber Readiness Inspections.
Gather and analyze information from network security appliances, document reviews, previous audit reports, written policies and procedures, and other materials related to programs, functions, or activities under review.
Review and evaluate the effects of new systems and system changes against DoD and Army information assurance and cybersecurity configuration management, architecture, and network security standards and requirements.
Review computer system access techniques to ensure data, equipment, and files are not compromised.
Provide technical assistance and security guidance concerning IT, data integrity, intrusion detection, firewall management, forensics, legal issue coordination, information security, telecommunications, and administrative security.
