About The Position

Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) is seeking an IT Senior Network Engineer to be part of powering Southern Middle Tennessee. DREMC is a member-owned electric cooperative serving over 85,000 members across 17 counties. The IT Senior Network Engineer is accountable for the administration, maintenance, and advancement of the Cooperative’s network infrastructure. This position serves as a hands-on technical resource for network operations, directly performing configuration, troubleshooting, and enhancements to ensure reliability, security, and continuous improvement. This role collaborates with internal departments and IT staff to support reliable network operations and business continuity, and shares responsibility for network planning, maintenance, and improvement while serving as a senior technical resource for network-related initiatives. Externally, the role coordinates with external IT vendors and service providers on LAN and WAN maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancements, providing technical input and oversight to ensure services meet DREMC needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology (IT), management information systems (MIS) or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Network Engineer required with the education requirement.
  • Thirteen (13) years of experience required in lieu of education.
  • Extensive background in maintaining and troubleshooting TCP/IP networks.
  • Extensive experience with network documentation.
  • Knowledge of computer platforms, local area networks (LAN), web, cloud, and mobile-based systems.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, push and/or pull.
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate and meet deadlines.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Must be eligible and remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), ISC2 (CISSP), or equivalent are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, implement, and maintain WAN/LAN network infrastructure.
  • Ensure network availability, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Provide expert support and troubleshooting for Layer 2 (L2) and Layer 3 (L3) switches, routers, and next-generation firewalls; use analysis tools to improve performance.
  • Maintain accurate and current technical documentation.
  • Apply necessary patches to networking systems and software.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Nutanix.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Resolve IT support requests promptly, minimizing disruption.
  • Possess knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and Center for Internet Security Benchmarks.
  • Implement and uphold data security, risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity protocols.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technology solutions in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively to minimize business interruptions.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Emergency response coverage as needed.
