About The Position

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking a dynamic IT Project Manager to lead key technology initiatives. This role is crucial for supporting the conservation and management of Arizona’s wildlife heritage by ensuring biologists and wildlife managers have the necessary digital tools and seamless systems. The IT Project Manager will drive progress on essential IT projects, including infrastructure upgrades, network deployments, and software applications, working collaboratively with internal teams, leadership, and external partners to manage timelines, budgets, risks, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a technology-related field).
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience managing projects, preferably in the IT Field.
  • Knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
  • General knowledge of software development life cycle methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of Agile concepts including Lean Management.
  • Proficient in the use of project management process and tools.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Skill in solving conflicts.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience managing multiple small-medium size projects, preferably in the IT Field.
  • Experience working with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid project management frameworks within an IT environment.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordinating, and executing IT-related projects across the Department.
  • Managing the implementation of technology solutions including infrastructure upgrades, network deployments, and application development efforts.
  • Collaborating with technical teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Driving project timelines, coordinating resources, and resolving issues to ensure project success.
  • Overseeing technical IT documentation.
  • Developing project scopes, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Coordinating internal and external teams (e.g., developers, infrastructure, vendors).
  • Leading daily standups and sprint planning.
  • Maintaining documentation in tools like Asana.
  • Serving as the primary contact for business units and technical leads.
  • Running project status meetings and reporting to leadership.
  • Managing expectations, scope changes, and approvals.
  • Identifying risks and creating mitigation plans.
  • Conducting lessons learned and post-implementation reviews.
  • Monitoring project deliverables for quality and alignment with business needs.
  • Documenting exceptions and escalating issues as needed.
  • Working with procurement for quotes, contracts, and purchase orders.
  • Tracking project budgets, invoices, and expenditures.
  • Ensuring compliance with state IT standards, ADA, and security policies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
