About The Position

Under the supervision of the IT Professional I, the IT Professional Trainees I, II, and III serve as the first line of client communication and provide support to end users and departments across Eureka County. These positions offer a progressive learning path designed to build technical expertise from foundational IT support and administrative tasks at the Trainee I level, to intermediate system administration and project assistance at the Trainee II level, and culminating in advanced IT responsibilities and security support at the Trainee III level. Trainees assist with workstation setup, system maintenance, user support, VoIP and network troubleshooting, account and email management, and digital communications. As they advance, Trainees take on greater responsibilities in IT systems management, complex project support, mentoring junior staff, and supporting security and infrastructure initiatives. These roles also play a key part in managing the County’s social media presence, including content creation, stakeholder coordination, and engagement monitoring. All levels require strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of job duties. This career development track prepares individuals for full professional roles within the County’s IT department by combining hands-on experience, training, and exposure to a broad range of IT functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One (1) year of administrative AND/OR professional level experience in Information Technology administration AND/OR administrative assistance is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Solid work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle new challenges.
  • Basic arithmetical computations including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, grammar and punctuation.

  • This position does not require any previous knowledge or experience with computers.
  • Professional Trainees should possess strong communication skills, a solid work ethic, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative duties and assigned tasks including reports, time keeping and documentation.
  • Assist with setting up workstations and troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues.
  • Assist in the setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of printers.
  • Provide support for basic IT operations, including user account management and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Learn and apply fundamental IT, security, and networking concepts in addition to best practices.
  • Document technical problems and solutions, maintaining detailed notes and reports.
  • Escalate issues that require advanced troubleshooting to higher-level IT staff.
  • Troubleshoot audiovisual (A/V) equipment and provide basic A/V conference room setups.
  • Maintain filing systems, project folders, and project organization, ensuring compliance with record retention guidelines.
  • Organize and manage projects using an online project management system.
  • Provide in person assistance and/or remote troubleshooting.
  • Assist with processing vouchers and handling basic billing tasks to support departmental operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors on-site, coordinating and facilitating their access to ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform security administration tasks such as resetting passwords and assisting with lockouts.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to gather information and updates for social media content and newsletter publications.
  • Provide support to users experiencing issues with computers, network devices, or peripherals.
  • Assist new hires by reviewing training materials, demonstrating the support ticket process, and guiding them through logging into their workstations and essential systems.
  • Maintain the ticket platform to ensure tickets are updated and resolved promptly.
  • Assist with fulfilling records requests by gathering relevant data and ensuring timely delivery.
