Intern IT Network
About The Position
NiSource is currently seeking a Summer IT Network Intern to join their internship program. This role offers a great opportunity for candidates looking to launch their careers in the IT field. Interns will become integral members of the department, learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks, and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. They will build professional relationships, participate in professional development exercises and team-building activities, and gain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and the utilities industry. This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, designed for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN, and candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Requirements
- Acquiring a degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, or mathematics.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
- Keen attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-discipline for planning and organizing tasks.
- Passionate about data.
- History of being able to learn new technology quickly.
- Solid skills in utilizing computers, operating systems, mobile devices and software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, and other IT applications).
- Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
- Must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location (Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN).
Responsibilities
- Provide network technical design leadership and oversee execution of processes related to incident, problem, change, asset, and configuration management within the network technology domain.
- Work with enterprise architects, program managers, IT analysts, and managed service providers to manage infrastructure operations and support the delivery of Infrastructure projects.
- Develop and periodically review ITIL-based processes and practices to ensure highly available operations and compliance with architecture standards and strategies.
- Support enterprise monitoring by helping develop monitoring tools, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Analyze data, identify trends, and use automation to improve monitoring processes.
- Collaborate with other teams to understand and mature end-to-end monitoring for systems that support operations.
- Support emergency response efforts, which may include working outside normal hours or assisting with tasks outside of typical responsibilities.
