About The Position

Altruist is seeking an IT Manager to lead its Information Technology function. This senior-most IT role at the company involves owning identity management, device lifecycle, helpdesk operations, audit compliance, vendor relationships, and managing a team of engineers across four offices. The role reports directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering and is a peer to Engineering Managers. Altruist approaches IT as an engineering discipline, emphasizing roadmaps, OKRs, architecture decisions, and a career ladder. The IT Manager will be involved in technical tasks such as writing Okta Workflows and n8n automations, participating in audit evidence reviews, and leading a team through hiring, development, and one-on-one meetings. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical credibility and clear management skills. This role is hybrid, requiring four days per week in the San Francisco FiDi office.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive IT experience.
  • At least 1 year in a management or senior technical lead role in a fast-paced tech or fintech environment.
  • Okta/Auth0 administration at scale (SSO/SCIM integrations, Okta Workflows, lifecycle automation, group management).
  • MDM proficiency with Kaseya VSA, Jamf, or Intune (device enrollment, remote management, policy enforcement).
  • Networking fundamentals (VLANs, VPN configuration, TCP/IP, Meraki or equivalent).
  • People management experience (leading a small team, managing performance, building onboarding plans, making hiring decisions).
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI-native IT tooling (Okta Workflows, n8n, Glean, or agentic AI platforms).
  • AWS familiarity (IAM, SSO, VPN).
  • Experience at a regulated financial services company (broker-dealer, RIA, or fintech).
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory migration to Okta LDAP.
  • Experience with Zero Touch Deployment or equivalent MDM-based provisioning automation.
  • Familiarity with Jira Service Management for helpdesk configuration and reporting.
  • AWS CCP or equivalent certification, or active pursuit of one.
  • Automation experience (Bash, Python, PowerShell, Google Apps Script, n8n, or equivalent).
  • SOC 2 or ITGC audit experience (owned evidence collection and UAR execution).

Responsibilities

  • Own the IT function, including identity management, device lifecycle, helpdesk, audit compliance, vendor relationships, and infrastructure projects.
  • Lead an AI-native IT operation, extending the automation roadmap and developing an AI helpdesk agent.
  • Build and manage a team of 2-3 IT engineers, including hiring, development, and performance management.
  • Partner with Engineering teams (Cloud Infrastructure, Security, Platform) on shared infrastructure and compliance.
  • Serve as the technical authority on IT-related matters such as Okta architecture, VPN design, and MDM strategy.
  • Administer Okta as the company's identity platform, managing SSO/SCIM integrations, group lifecycle, and automating provisioning with Okta Workflows.
  • Lead the Active Directory to Okta migration and the Enterprise VPN migration.
  • Partner with Security on YubiKey program, Okta Verify sunset, and endpoint vulnerability SLAs.
  • Own and extend the IT automation roadmap using tools like Okta Workflows, n8n, Google Apps Script, and Claude Code.
  • Ship the T1/T2 helpdesk AI agent and complete the audit evidence AI agent pilot.
  • Own the MDM/RMM environment using Kaseya VSA, including device enrollment, EOL replacement, patching, and remote management.
  • Ship Zero Touch Deployment for pre-configured laptops.
  • Manage hardware procurement, asset inventory, and the device lifecycle end-to-end.
  • Own helpdesk operations, including JSM queue configuration, SLA targets, and escalation paths.
  • Manage new hire onboarding and offboarding, including Okta provisioning, device setup, and access lifecycle.
  • Support Corp RIA Beta IT operations.
  • Own IT's role in SOC 2 and ITGC audits, including evidence collection, UAR execution, and BDO relationship.
  • Partner with the Security team on endpoint monitoring, EDR tooling, KnowBe4 administration, and security awareness compliance.
  • Manage and develop a team of IT engineers, including running 1:1s, setting growth paths, and establishing team culture.
  • Own all IT vendor relationships, including negotiation and proactive management.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering teams on shared infrastructure and compliance work.
