About The Position

The IT Intern maintains and upgrades automated systems that help department users manage information, provides technical assistance to resolve user problems, and maintains existing hardware and software. The role supports desktop and laptop systems, peripherals, software, network equipment, and end users, both locally and remotely. The intern also helps maintain a virtual patch testing environment, develops and maintains operating system images, and assists with electronic waste disposal.

Requirements

• Must be currently pursuing or planning to pursue an undergraduate degree.
• Applicants who will have completed a bachelor’s degree before the end of the internship are not eligible.
• A cover letter must be included with the application for consideration.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Training and/or experience demonstrating the essential functions, knowledge, and skills listed.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in personal computer repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of network systems and network hardware, including switches and routers, and network software.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to analyze and provide solutions for personal computer hardware and software problems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose desktop and laptop software issues, including operating systems, application software, and peripherals.
• Configure and install desktop and laptop operating systems, application-specific software, and computer peripherals.
• Support and maintain the virtual patch testing environment for deployment to desktop and remote computers.
• Provide local and remote end-user support.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosis of network equipment, systems, and cabling.
• Develop and maintain operating system images in a machine-agnostic environment.
• Assist with disposal of electronic waste material.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
