About The Position

The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission (VIDC) is seeking a well-rounded, dynamic IT professional to join the agency’s statewide IT support team as our IT Integration Specialist. The VIDC is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of clients through zealous, compassionate, high-quality legal advocacy. The IT department is equally dedicated to this mission. This recruitment seeks to fill this new position with a motivated, creative-thinking IT Integration professional seeking a mission-oriented career opportunity. This position is on site at our Administrative office and reports directly to the CIO and is employed at-will.

Requirements

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and technically proficient in systems administration and project execution to support the planning, coordination, implementation and ongoing administration of IT systems and projects.
  • Integrates IT project coordination, systems administration, infrastructure management, vendor coordination, and technical support for which the candidate will serve as a key liaison between IT staff, end users, and vendors to ensure technology initiatives are completed efficiently and accurately within established timelines.
  • Result-oriented individual contributor who can also function in a team environment.
  • Proactive and resourceful mindset.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to communicate technical information effectively to customers, vendors, and colleagues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Considerable experience as an IT professional with a focus on systems administration or IT project coordination.
  • In-depth knowledge of directory systems and group policy management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the coordination and completion of IT projects.
  • The ability to translate complex technical solutions into lay terms, both in writing and verbally.
  • The ability to integrate needs and input from a wide range of sources and translate them into meaningful IT solutions.
  • PowerShell scripting or other similar methodologies used in the automation of various IT tasks.
  • The ability to self-educate and research a problem is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills that bolster the agency’s mission through responsive interactions with customers across the Commonwealth.
  • Timely follow through on task assignments and project duties.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver 50lbs is a must.
  • Candidates must possess a valid DMV driver’s license and have the ability to drive to field offices throughout the commonwealth.
  • Regular attendance and physical presence in the office are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Cisco systems/CLI, Active Directory/LDAP Query, or Google App Script preferable.
  • Relevant IT and project certifications will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as part of a team that administers Google Workspace, Cisco network and telephony environment, Active Directory, Windows Update Services, VMWare, cloud/SAAS products, endpoint management and ticketing systems.
  • Triage and manage system outages and necessary communication pathways between vendor and stakeholders until resolved.
  • Perform directory services and related application onboarding and offboarding activities for staff, interns, volunteers, and contractors, including account creation, access changes, and account termination.
  • Maintain user accounts in accordance with established procedures for state and industry best practices and policies.
  • Monitor the patch release pathways for new updates as well as forums for potential issues and mitigating practices.
  • Plan and roll out Windows operating system updates for supported computers and systems and monitor completion to 100%.
  • Ensure workstations receive required security updates and patches in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Identify systems that are not successfully receiving updates and take corrective action.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports regarding patch status and outstanding update issues.
  • Escalate to management systems that remain vulnerable or cannot be successfully updated.
  • Maintain awareness of assigned project milestones, deadlines, and deliverables, track progress against established project plan, assess necessary resources, and escalate at risk scenarios immediately to the IT Director.
  • Follow up with responsible parties on outstanding tasks.
  • Assist in confirming that project deliverables have been completed and tested.
  • Perform stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering RE business needs, technical requirements, user expectations, and operational constraints.
  • Coordinate meetings, schedules, technical activities, and communications associated with assigned projects.
  • Serve as an alternate/backup IT help desk contact with the field, and track completion of and establish customer expectations for service related inquiries utilizing the Help Desk ticketing system.
  • Respond timely to hardware, software, network communications, and other questions via telephone, the IT support mailbox, remote network connection to user’s computer or office network daily.
  • Provide on-site support as needed.
  • Investigate and resolve hardware, software, network, telecommunications, and application issues.
  • Follow-up with customers on service outages and coordinate service resolution and updates with IT staff colleagues.
  • Ensure IT support actions provide a diagnosis as well as a corrective plan of action at all times.
  • Perform research to troubleshoot issues when the solution is unknown.
  • Assist with asset management, equipment deployment, replacement and lifecycle tracking.
  • Work with end users and vendors to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with office moves, expansions, and internal reconfigurations by coordinating technology requirements with other departments, office representatives, facilities personnel, contractors, vendors, and IT leadership, and ordering and tracking installation of necessary ISP and wiring needs.
  • Assist with testing and implementation of new technology, systems, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Maintain system configuration and SOP documentation.
  • Establish tips and tricks snippets, end-user documentation, and short how-to screen captures for common issues.
  • Perform other project and ad hoc duties as assigned.
