IT Infrastructure Engineer

REA MAGNET WIRE CORPLafayette, IN
Onsite

About The Position

Engineers, builds, and supports the company's enterprise infrastructure, including compute and virtualization, storage, LAN/WAN and wireless networks, backup and disaster recovery, and cloud and identity services, across multi-plant operations. Designs and implements these systems to the architecture, security, and configuration standards set by the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security, and provides hands-on maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting to keep them reliable and available. This is a hands-on technical role that combines infrastructure design and build with ongoing network and systems support. It works alongside the department's cybersecurity function, which owns the security program (vulnerability management, detection, and endpoint security), and the Support & Systems team, which handles end-user and desktop support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent amount of previous relevant experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with server virtualization, enterprise storage, and enterprise backup, replication, and disaster recovery (Veeam or similar).
  • Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including switching, routing, VLANs and segmentation, WAN/SD-WAN, and structured cabling, with strong troubleshooting skills, and experience implementing changes to approved firewall and network configurations (Palo Alto and Panorama a plus).
  • Server operating-system administration on Windows Server and Linux, including the host operating systems that support ERP and database workloads.
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructure (Microsoft Azure preferred) and enterprise directory services (Active Directory and Entra ID).
  • Scripting and automation ability (PowerShell preferred), with familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management concepts.
  • Knowledge of common business processes in a manufacturing environment, including awareness of IT/OT network segmentation on the plant floor.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; occasional short-term travel to remote facilities for project work as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant industry certifications a plus (for example, CompTIA Network+ or Security+, Microsoft Azure or Identity, Cisco, VMware, or Palo Alto).

Responsibilities

  • Builds, configures, and maintains virtualized server, compute, cloud, and enterprise storage environments to defined architecture and capacity standards, including infrastructure host lifecycle and patching.
  • Administers the server operating systems that underpin the environment, including Windows Server and Linux hosts, and provides and patches the database server operating-system infrastructure for the ERP and quality systems.
  • Implements and supports enterprise backup, immutable and offsite replication, and disaster recovery systems (for example, Veeam), and participates in scheduled DR testing and recovery validation under the direction of the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
  • Engineers and maintains LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, and network segmentation, including switching, routing, and structured cabling, to established design and security standards, and creates and maintains technical drawings documenting the infrastructure in place at Rea Magnet Wire.
  • Engineers and maintains enterprise wireless (WLAN) infrastructure to defined segmentation and security standards.
  • Implements approved network connectivity, routing, and segmentation changes across the environment, including firewall and perimeter changes carried out to the configurations and policy owned by the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
  • Maintains IT-side infrastructure up to the IT/OT boundary and implements the segmentation and security policy where the business network meets OT, in coordination with the Operational Technology team; boundary changes are made jointly.
  • Applies server and infrastructure hardening baselines, keeps infrastructure systems patched and in compliance, and remediates infrastructure vulnerabilities identified through the department's vulnerability management program.
  • Automates provisioning, configuration, and routine maintenance where practical (for example, PowerShell scripting and infrastructure-as-code) to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
  • Oversees the work of contractors and consultants on infrastructure projects when outside assistance is needed.
  • Provides hands-on support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, and wireless networks and for server and infrastructure systems across all facilities, resolving outages and performance issues.
  • Proactively monitors the performance, capacity, and availability of infrastructure systems and networks, tuning for maximum uptime and operational efficiency and responding to infrastructure alerts.
  • Provides advanced (third-level) troubleshooting and resolution for critical infrastructure components, supporting the Support & Systems team on escalations.
  • Provides cross-cover for the department's cybersecurity function on server and infrastructure issues and shares the US after-hours on-call rotation, ensuring plant production operations are not adversely affected by system failures.
  • Assists the Support & Systems team and other IT personnel with projects and escalations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
