The Help Desk Technician provides first-line technical support to District government employees, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues and exceptional customer service. This role supports the District’s mission by maintaining reliable access to technology services, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, and escalating complex issues to the appropriate teams. The Help Desk Specialist responds to and diagnoses problems through discussion with users, ensuring a timely process through which problems are controlled, including problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up steps. This role supervises the operation of the help desk and serves as the focal point for customer concerns, providing support to end users on a variety of issues. The specialist identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems, responding to telephone calls, emails, and personnel requests for technical support. They document, track, and monitor problems to ensure a timely resolution, and provide second-tier support to end users for PC, server, or mainframe applications or hardware. The role involves interacting with network services, software systems engineering, and/or applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems. The specialist will simulate or recreate user problems to resolve operating difficulties and recommend systems modifications to reduce user problems.
