Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District is seeking an IT/GIS Intern to support its Information Technology Department. This unpaid, limited-term internship is expected to last no more than six months and provides hands-on experience with GIS mapping, database maintenance, and field data collection. The schedule is 10–20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility in scheduling and no weekend work. The intern receives direct supervision from an assigned supervisor or Director. The intern performs assigned tasks including maintaining electronic and paper maps; digitizing and editing base layers; producing drive paths; and updating routes, sources, and material records using District GIS applications and databases. Other work may include creating maps, graphics, and reports for city or public use; supporting geospatial AI or automated feature extraction by training artificial intelligence to identify objects in aerial or satellite maps; maintaining equipment and software inventories; and documenting procedures. The position is primarily sedentary office work, though standing and walking between work areas may be required. Work is generally in an office with moderate noise and controlled temperatures. Work outside at District facilities may involve loud noise, hot or cold temperatures, inclement weather, chemicals, mechanical or electrical hazards, and hazardous substances or fumes. The intern may interact with upset staff and public or private representatives while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
