About The Position

Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School (CRIPCS) is an adult charter school that delivers high-quality education, career training, and supportive services that enable adult immigrants to realize their dreams while strengthening our community and economy. The Information Technology Fundamentals Instructor (ITF) supports the school’s mission by preparing our adult students to become productive and civically engaged residents of Washington, DC. The ITF Instructor accomplishes this by providing excellent instruction that supports students’ diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and English language abilities. The responsibilities of the position include creating materials specific to the assigned level, selecting class textbooks, designing a class syllabus, and writing daily lesson plans to directly address all student needs. The ITF Instructor is expected to engage with multiple forms of data, both formal and informal, to help students advance academically. Additionally, the role of the ITF Instructor requires the management of key data points. Student certification tracking forms, daily attendance, and student scores are examples of administrative responsibilities that extend beyond the time spent teaching in the classroom.

Requirements

  • At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • At least three years of teaching experience in technology
  • Ability to demonstrate strong command in the use of technology in instructional duties, including but not limited to Google Suite, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Windows O/S, different web browsers, and Zoom; knowledge of LMS platforms
  • Must be flexible and able to make adaptations to meet the academic needs of students with different learning skills and challenges
  • Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills; be able to explain concepts to others effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills and timely completion of tasks

Responsibilities

  • Provides practical hands-on practice to allow students to gain experience with technology hardware and software.
  • Prepares students to take standard industry certification exams (CompTIA Tech+)
  • Implements classroom policies and procedures
  • Monitors and evaluates student performance and differentiates instruction for in-person and virtual instruction.
  • Encourages students’ active participation and regular attendance
  • Monitors student progress through the CertMaster online platform and LMS
  • Creates course syllabus according to content-based CompTIA exam objectives and student goals
  • Prepares clear, concise daily lesson plans, including daily objectives
  • Creates a positive learning environment for adult learner
  • Collaborates with the ITF paraeducator to follow up with students' performance, attendance, lesson objectives, and additional support.
  • Collaborates with the Workforce Program Manager to expand technology-related opportunities in postsecondary education and develop partnerships with potential employers to create career pathways for students.
  • Develops and uses e-portfolio assessment to help document student progress.
  • Conducts student conferences at least twice during the semester (mid-semester and end-of-semester)
  • Attends faculty meetings and professional development
