About The Position

We are seeking motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our IT support team for a critical summer student-device lifecycle project. As a Temporary IT Field Technician, you will travel to various charter school campuses throughout the Greater Philadelphia region to audit, test, and triage a large inventory of student Chromebooks. Your primary goal is to ensure that student devices are accurately evaluated and prepped for the upcoming school year. This role is ideal for those looking to gain hands-on, high-volume IT asset management and hardware troubleshooting experience.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, ChromeOS, and the Chromebook ecosystem.
  • Ability to maintain data integrity and accurate records while processing a high volume of repetitive tasks.
  • Capable of keeping a workspace organized and maintaining distinct physical piles/bins for different device statuses.
  • Ability to travel consistently to various school locations throughout the Philadelphia region (public transit accessibility varies by site).
  • Ability to lift boxes of devices up to 30 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive hand movements.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in asset management, warehouse inventory, or retail tech support.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting PCs, Macs, or tablets is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently inspect thousands of student Chromebooks returning from the academic year.
  • Run standardized diagnostics to determine device functionality (checking screens, keyboards, trackpads, Wi-Fi connectivity, and battery health).
  • Categorize devices into three distinct paths based on your evaluation: Ready for Service: Clean, update, and prep for student redistribution. MSP Repair: Document specific hardware failures and prepare devices to be shipped to our repair team (MSP) for repair. End-of-Life (EOL): Identify and flag units that are physically damaged beyond reasonable repair or have reached their Google Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date.
  • Accurately log device serial numbers, asset tags, and status updates into our inventory management system.
  • Travel to and work out of different designated charter school sites within the Philadelphia area as scheduled.
