IT Engineer

Buildkite
Remote

About The Position

Buildkite's IT team is small, and this hire will grow it, being the first one based in the Americas. The role has a split of roughly 60% operational support and 40% engineering, with an expectation to shift more towards engineering as tasks are automated. The company is looking for someone who approaches IT as an engineering problem, prioritizing automation, system building, and documentation. A key aspect of this role is the direct involvement with AI, expecting candidates to already be working with AI tools for automation, integrations, and internal tooling. The role also involves rolling out AI tooling to the company, specifically deploying Serval, an AI-native ITSM platform, to manage first-line support and access requests. The IT Engineer will report to the IT Engineering Manager and collaborate with Engineering, Security, and People Ops. The role offers significant autonomy and ownership due to the distributed nature of the team and the need for IT coverage in the Americas time zone. The internal customers are primarily engineers who value well-built tooling.

Requirements

  • SaaS platform administration and identity provider management
  • macOS device management and MDM experience
  • SSO, SAML, and SCIM configuration and troubleshooting
  • Strong written communication for async, remote-first work

  • IaC experience (Terraform or similar)
  • Endpoint management and compliance tooling
  • Background at a developer-tooling or engineering-focused company

  • Build and maintain automation for access provisioning, onboarding, offboarding, and common support workflows
  • Contribute to IaC using Terraform or similar tooling for SaaS configuration management
  • Design and build API and webhook integrations across our internal tooling stack
