IT DevOps Engineer

MACOM•Lowell, MA

About The Position

MACOM is seeking a mid-level DevOps Engineer to join its EDA Infrastructure team. The role maintains and improves CI/CD pipelines, administers EDA tool licenses and environments, and resolves Linux system issues that affect engineering productivity. The engineer collaborates with hardware design, verification, and software teams to keep critical EDA infrastructure reliable. The position includes designing and optimizing GitLab CI/CD pipelines and managing repositories, access controls, merge-request workflows, branch protections, and Linux-based GitLab Runners. It also involves administering EDA tools and license servers, maintaining RHEL workstations and compute servers, supporting NFS and shared storage, configuring LSF compute-farm nodes, and automating system-administration tasks.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of DevOps, systems engineering, or EDA infrastructure experience in a hardware design environment.
  • Hands-on proficiency with GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines, Runners, APIs, and webhooks.
  • Demonstrated experience administering at least one major EDA suite: Cadence, Siemens EDA, or Keysight.
  • Strong Linux systems skills; RHEL is preferred, and command-line troubleshooting, scripting, and performance analysis are required.
  • Experience with configuration-management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Salt.
  • Scripting proficiency in Bash and Python.
  • Working knowledge of NFS, LDAP/Active Directory integration, and enterprise networking fundamentals.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or individual granted asylum or refugee status) due to ITAR regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with all four EDA vendors: Cadence, Ansys, Siemens EDA (Mentor Graphics), and Keysight.
  • Experience with cloud-based EDA burst compute using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Tcl or Perl experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines for hardware and software builds.
  • Manage GitLab repositories, access controls, merge-request workflows, and branch-protection rules.
  • Implement GitLab Runners on Linux hosts and in container environments, and tune executor configurations for EDA workloads.
  • Monitor pipeline health, diagnose failures, and improve mean time to recovery.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade Cadence, Ansys, Siemens EDA (Mentor Graphics), and Keysight EDA tools in multi-user Linux environments.
  • Administer FlexLM and RLM license servers, monitor utilization, and troubleshoot license checkout failures.
  • Diagnose and resolve Linux system issues, including kernel panics, NFS and storage failures, memory leaks, and network connectivity problems.
  • Manage RHEL workstations and compute servers, applying security patches and OS updates on a scheduled cadence.
  • Maintain NFS mounts, automounter configurations, and shared storage for EDA project data.
  • Configure and monitor LSF compute-farm nodes used for EDA batch jobs.
  • Automate recurring system-administration tasks using Ansible playbooks and shell or Python scripts.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Employer-sponsored 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Position eligibility for restricted stock unit awards and cash bonuses, at MACOM’s discretion and subject to individual and company performance.
